Step #1: Download The Prerequisites Software
Before to start, You need to download some applications and install, During the installation of macOS Big Sur installation on VMware you will require these files. Anyway, I give you the direct link below to download and install the Prerequisites software.
- Download VMware Workstation Pro 15.5.x or VMware Player 15.5.x.
- Download the macOS Unlocker V3 for VMware
- Create or Download macOS Big Sur Beta ISO
- macOS Big Sur Beta 11.0 (20A4299v) Dev Beta 1
- macOS Big Sur Beta 11.0 (20A4300b) Dev Beta 2
- macOS Big Sur Beta 11.0 (20A5343j) Dev Beta 4/Public Beta 1 Latest
- Download VMware Tools (Optional)
Step #2: Install the Prerequisites Software
Now from the above link you may install Workstation Pro 15.5.x or VMware Player 15.5.x, First you must wait till the download completes then install VMware Workstation to your PC. If you have already installed it. So, No need to install again you can skip it.
Step #3: Install MacOS Unlocker On VMware To Install MacOS Big Sur On Windows
Before to start, You have to close the VMware Completely. Otherwise, It won’t work.
VMware Unlocker is a lightweight tool that allows the user to have the Mac OS X option on VMware Workstation/Player. Make sure that, If you don’t install the macOS Unlocker then you won’t be able to install macOS on VMware. It will cause to VMware to install macOS on VMware.
You have download macOS Unlocker V3 for VMware from GitHub or the direct link. Extract the macOS Unlocker V3.0. Right-click on win-install.cmd and select Run as Administrator.
Note: You may always uninstall the previous version of the Unlocker before using a new release. Failure to do this could render VMware unusable. – David Parsons
Step #4: Create A New Virtual Machine For MacOS Big Sur
Once you have installed VMware Workstation on your Windows PC and as well as installed macOS Unlocker. Whenever you want to install any kind of operating system on VMware then you will need to create a special virtual machine for that. For Creating a new virtual machine for macOS Big Sur, you have to follow the below guidance.
#1. Now open the VMware workstation on your PC, Which you have installed that. When the home Page of VMware appeared just click on create a new virtual machine.
#2. Then select the Typical or Recommend option.
#3. Now select the option I will install the operating system later then click next.
#4. Then on the Select A Guest Operating System popup you may select Apple Mac OS X and version 10.16 Once you did then click next.
#5. Write a name for your virtual machine and brows the location then click next.
#6. After you named it, Then select maximum disk storage 150GB or more for macOS Big Sur to support, click next.
#7. On Ready to Create Virtual Machine, Click Customize Hardware.
Now you need to increase the memory for virtual machine
#8. Increase the Memory size up to 4GB or higher for the proper performance.
#9. Select Processor menu then increase the CPU processor core from 2 cores to 4 or Higher cores for better performance.
Note: If you don’t have enough resources then you may not increase the Memory and Processor since the minimum requirement is 4 GB Memory and 2 Cores of Processor.
#10. Select New CD/DVD (SATA) from the menu then click Use ISO image file: and click Browse.
#11. Locate the macOS Big Sur Beta.iso file then click Open. If you don’t have this file then you should download this from Step 1: Download the Prerequisites section.
#12. After selecting the macOS Big Sur ISO to save all the changes click Close.
#13. Morally you have created new virtual machine for macOS Big Sur on VMware. So, Now click finish.
Step #5. Now Edit VMX File of macOS Big Sur
#1. Now you have to open the virtual machine folder where you have selected. If you didn’t specify the location then probably the default location is Document > Virtual Machine. You have to right-click on the macOS Big Sur.vmx and open it via Notepad.
#2. Scroll down to the bottom of texts and add the following code; then click on File > Save. After that, you may close it as you don’t need it anymore.

Step #6. Start macOS Big Sur Virtual Machine
#1. Open VMware and on the macOS Big Sur VM window Click Power on this Virtual Machine.
#2. Wait a while to boot up.
#3. Select English on the language page then click on Next.
#4. Now select Disk Utility and click Continue.
#5. Select VMware Virtual SATA Hard Drive Media then click Erase.
#6. For Name, type disk macOS Big Sur Beta then select APFS from Format drop-down list and click Erase.
#7. Click Done to close it.
#8. In order to close the disk utility, you have to click on the close button.
#9. Select Install macOS and click Continue.
#10. Press on Continue.
#11. Then you have to Agree to the terms of the software license agreement.
#12. Then, you have to select the available disk and make sure to click on the Install to get the installation process.
#13. Finally, macOS Big Sur will be restarted 2 or 3 times in order to complete the installation process. Please don’t touch anything let it fix everything by itself. The installation process will take 20 to 30 minutes to be completed, wait, and be patient.
Step #7. Installation Process of macOS Big Sur
- Choose your country and region.
- Select a Keyboard layout that you want to use in macOS Big Sur.
- If you want to enable the Accessibility features on macOS Big Sur, simple click on Not now because you can set up later on.
- In the data & privacy window, read it out properly and click Continue.
- Click on the Set up later and don’t sign in because you can add on everything is done.
- Be agree to terms and conditions.
- Write out your Full name, Account name, Password, Hint, and click on Continue.
8. Do you want to customize the Express set up if yes then click on the Customize setting otherwise click on the Continue.
9. The Analytics window will pop up, simply click on Continue.
10. Finally, you have to choose the Appearance theme and click Continue. If you want to use dark mode then go ahead.
11. It will finish some settings and will set up macOS Big Sur for a while. Wait until you get the macOS Big Sur wallpaper.
